Caring for Our Neighbors
As a church community dedicated to living the command of Jesus to care for our neighbors, especially those who are struggling to support themselves or living in vulnerable situations, we have committed ourselves to providing financial assistance and service to two wonderful projects in Cuenca and nearby Chordeleg.
Chordeleg:
Fundación de Santa Maria de la Esperanza
Some years ago, our former pastor, Padre Jorge Moreno, invited us to come to know the work of the Fundacion de Santa Maria de la Esperanza located in Chordeleg. We were immediately impressed by the extraordinary ministry that is accomplished there day in and day out. The Foundation offers a home to the abandoned and disabled of all ages, housing them, feeding them, caring for their physical, psychological, and spiritual needs. A professional staff is on hand at all times to lovingly tend to the needs of some of our society's most forgotten and lost.
We offer ocassional visits to the Foundation for our parishioners and every month we take up a special collection to support this immensely important work. If you are with us on the last Sunday of the month, you will be offered a "Little Brown Envelope" for your donation. Every dollar will be well used!
Cuenca:
Posada San Francisco
As a parish located in the Historic Center of Cuenca, the Iglesia de San Francisco has for many years offered housing, food, and care to the poor, homeless, and migrants through its Posada San Francisco located on the church grounds. It is one of the primary works of charity in the center of our city.
We are developing a relationship with the Posada through the invitation of our pastor, Padre Joffre, who serves as its director. We welcome volunteers to assist the teacher in the Espacio Amigable daycare or serving the guests in the dining room during meals.
